Newsroom of the Future at IBC 2025
The TRANSMIXR team set up a tech demo at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam, hosted at the booth of its project partner EBU, the European Broadcasting Union. The purpose was to unveil the comprehensive newsroom solutions that the TRANSMIXR partners developed over the past three years. Several live demos highlighted their potential to drive innovation and growth in the industry.
Introducing the Newsroom of the Future
A key component of the showcased solutions was the Newsroom AI Toolbox, developed by webLyzard technology in collaboration with leading media organizations, including AFP, RTV Slovenia, and TG4. This toolbox comprises two applications designed to empower media professionals in discovering trending stories, streamlining their workflows, and increasing the impact of their content:
- Media Analytics Dashboard to continuously monitor breaking news. By identifying hidden connections between emerging stories, opinion leaders, and geographic locations, the dashboard helps uncover the factors shaping public opinion. Journalists particularly appreciated the dashboard’s capability to visualize multiple, cross-lingual content feeds, as well as its “Live Mode” for real-time alerts. A custom AI summary feature enables users to instantly repurpose search results in multiple formats, including social media posts.
- Storypact AI Editor. Unlike generic AI tools, this editor leverages verified sources and up-to-date online information to assist content creators in refining their messaging for specific domains, audiences, and channels. Storypact provides users with access to related articles and quotes, facilitating fact-checking against verified databases. The discovery of associated individuals, locations, and organizations in similar contexts supports Search and Generative Engine Optimization (SEO, GEO).
Innovation Award for “Evolution of the Control Room”
A special highlight of IBC 2025 was the IBC Accelerator Project of the Year Award for “Evolution of the Control Room”. Presented in 2024 as part of the IBC Media Innovation Program, this project proposed a way to revolutionize control rooms using XR and AI, enabling remote collaboration. The project was a joint effort of TRANSMIXR, ITN, BBC and TV2 Denmark, with support from HSLU, TCD, TG4, TUS and the University of Strathclyde.
Grace Dinan from the Technical University of the Shannon accepted the award on behalf of TRANSMIXR: “It’s great to see how the tools we’ve developed, and workflows we’re exploring, resonate with broadcast industry professionals.”
First Virtual Reality Live Broadcast
TRANSMIXR provides collaborative, immersive experiences. A virtual studio set up at the EBU stand provided a live, multi-platform interactive experience for attendees both on-site and online. An immersive Virtual Reality (VR) Broadcast from TG4 (Ireland) was the first of its kind, providing 360-degree and volumetric live interviews, as well as full interactivity and audience participation.
It is inspiring to see TRANSMIXR innovations such as the Newsroom of the Future gain such broad international recognition at IBC and elsewhere. This underscoress that the media sector is ready to be further connected and empowered by immersive technologies and explainable artificial intelligence.
